Oops

Clearly, I'm not much of a natural 'blogger'. It's been months since my last post, and it took a friend to remind me I even HAD a blog. And now I'm sitting here, on the eve of an exam, finally writing my next post as opposed to revising. Standard.
I think the main problem I have with blogging is that I kind of feel like I'm talking to myself. I mean why should I assume that anyone in the world even cares about what I have to say? 90% of the time I don't even care. I only care if I genuinely have something I want people to know. Or I'm pissed off.

NEW LEAF! Well, I'll try. Actually its pretty exciting, my photography has started kicking off. This is rather ironic considering I know extraordinarily little about photography excepting what I've picked up from messing around. Most photographers would be disgusted if I were to use the therm 'photographer' to describe myself, seeing as I had to Google what aperture meant earlier. But if you think about it, all that technical stuff is just the flowery part of photography. I'm not saying its not important, lord no its absolutely vital and I wish I knew more about my camera (it's a Nikon D3000, and is one of the most beautiful and confusing things in the world- apart from men. Sometimes.) but surely the most important thing is inspiration right? The desire to capture an image or create something unique is totally fundamental. And the satisfaction you get from achieving the image you want is incredible! And soon you find you've spent hours editing and creating photos for nobody but you; you become completely absorbed in the images, not letting them be until they look exactly the way you intended. It satiates you, obsesses you, but still you love it.

Anywho I'm digressing. I write for Portsmouth University's student magazine Pugwash as the Fashion Sub-Editor. I do the articles we can't get anyone else to do, but I still love it. It's more challenging trying to make the best of an awkward article idea, or one that doesn't seem particularly original. I take the pictures for each of the articles myself, and I've done two so far that I'm particularly proud of, and I'll put them up here...

These first pictures are from the first shoot I ever did. They were from an article on mens vintage fashion, where I essentially threw four guys into a local vintage shop and told them to dress themselves.

I wanted to get four guys who looked like they were already into the whole vintage/indie style already for the article to work. One guy was from my course; to be honest he was more 'preppy' than anything, but he still looked pretty effective.
